One of the worlds first nursing home was established in Copenhagen. It was located near the hospital and continued to grow into a community that catered to the elderly and created a closed off island in the city for them, named De Gamles By (The old people’s city).. In recent years, the gates have come down and younger generations have flocked to the area due to its large green spaces and available parking. 

Kindergartens, universities, daycares and petting zoos are now normal occurrences here. Old and young come together to build a strong community that grows and learns from each other. The city wishes to expand upon the rising energy of the area, while densifying it in order to meet demand from growing populations. 

This proposal aims to create a hierarchy of connection through the site to the surrounding area, while adding social circulation. The areas are un-programmed, passive and serve as an organizational logic of the site. The axes define and unite three different neighborhoods, that each have their own unique atmosphere and respond to different needs.
